Rio Pico Fly Fishing

Rio Pico

The Rio Pico Experience

We pioneered fly fishing in Rio Pico and continue to offer the region’s premier wilderness program. This roadless territory in Central Patagonia attracts anglers seeking authentic backcountry adventure amid spectacular landscapes. Reaching remote fishing locations requires fording rivers and navigating locked gates-our experienced guides handle the rugged terrain with well-equipped 4×4s, specialized rafts, and years of local knowledge.

The program combines exceptional lake fishing with exciting spring creek and river opportunities. Fish a different water daily, choosing from five rivers and eight spring creeks holding trout that average 16-20+ inches. While access is primarily private, short hikes lead to prime sections where anglers sight cast to impressive fish in near-solitude.

From late spring through summer, terrestrial patterns dominate-oversized foam flies imitating grasshoppers, beetles, crickets, and ants. Sporadic mayfly and caddis hatches add variety for anglers targeting rising fish. The region’s productive lakes showcase rainbow, brown, and brook trout averaging 24 inches. Over a dozen distinct lakes dot this stunning Andean valley-each with unique character. Fish massive dry flies imitating dragonflies and beetles while enjoying scenery that no other stillwater destination can match.

Rio Pico accommodates any itinerary length. Popular options include pairing a week at our Trevelin lodge with 4-7 nights at Tres Valles Lodge, or adding northern extensions with scenic ground transfers. Contact us to explore this extraordinary wilderness fishing opportunity.
